Dental Implants

Permanent replacements for missing teeth, planned and placed by Dr. Annese and made in our own on-site lab.

Permanent replacements for missing teeth

Whether you're missing one tooth or a full arch of teeth, we have permanent replacement options to meet every need. Dental implants consist of a titanium implant that's placed directly into your gums and jaw, along with an implant restoration (such as a crown) that permanently attaches to the implant. At North Billerica Smiles, our dentists specialize in dental implant preparation, placement, and restoration — and every case is planned and placed by Dr. Annese, a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists with thousands of implants placed.

Our implant services include

Dental implant placement surgery

The dental implant process begins with initial placement surgery. During this step, your mouth will be numbed, and a small opening will be made in the gums and jaw. A titanium implant will be placed in this opening, which will then be sutured to encourage healing. Over the next 3-6 months, the implant will permanently attach to the jaw bone, creating a strong, stable point to which an implant restoration can be attached.

Dental implant restorations

Dental implant restorations are the false teeth that attach to implants to restore your smile. Crowns are the most common for single-tooth implants, but implant-supported bridges and implant-supported dentures are available too. As you heal, our team will schedule follow-ups to begin crafting a natural-looking, durable restoration in our own on-site lab. Once you're fully healed, your restoration will be attached to your implant or implants to fully restore your smile.

Oral surgery to prepare for implants

We offer a variety of oral surgeries to prepare patients for dental implants. Our dentists can handle complex occlusion (bite) issues and adjustments, and perform bone grafts and sinus lifts to add bone mass in preparation for dental implants. We also offer alveoloplasty to smooth out tooth extraction sites.

Single-tooth implants

Single-tooth implants consist of one dental implant and a dental crown. The implant acts as an artificial root, while the crown functions as a replacement for your missing tooth. This is the most common type of dental implant, and is ideal for patients who are missing a few teeth but have otherwise healthy mouths.

Mini implants

"Mini" implants are about half the size and thickness of traditional dental implants. This means they are appropriate even for patients who have lost some jaw bone mass, and are less invasive. Mini implants are usually used to support a set of lower dentures.

Keeping your smile healthy

During your six-month visits to North Billerica Smiles, we'll check your natural teeth and your implants to ensure your mouth is healthy. Beyond this, you'll also need to make sure you continue to brush your teeth, gums, and implants twice a day at home. That's it!

Questions

Frequently asked questions

  • Dental implants are a safe, reliable, and permanent approach to restoring missing teeth. The process begins with a consultation to determine if you are a good candidate. Once the evaluation is complete, the jawbone is prepared to accept the implant. Afterward, we place the implant into your jawbone before fixing a new crown, and provide aftercare instructions.
